Miracle of the Heart

I'm writing this post with a very specific purpose.  My dear friend, Abby (http://benandabby.blogspot.com), has some friends who are in desperate need of prayers.  The Harrisons (http://keeganh.blogspot.com) have two young children, Keegan and Audrey.  Keegan is almost four years old and is, I believe, the youngest Texas to have ever received a heart transplant - at the mere age of five DAYS old.  Since he was born, Keegan and his family have dealt with the constant ups and downs of health-related issues.  I honestly cannot even begin to try to explain ANY of these issues in my own words.  All I can say is that they deal with things that the rest of us would consider our worst nightmare every single day.

At this point, little Keegan has been through the ringer here in North Texas.  He is in and out of the Emergency Room every week (often times many times per week) and the doctors here seem at a loss as to what to do for him.  His family has made the brave decision to travel to Boston (where they went a couple years ago) to try to get more answers and more importantly, more help for their son.  Their plan was to leave on Friday, but it got postponed due to the hurricane.  The new plan sounds like it will be tomorrow or Wednesday.

Like I said earlier, I know this family through my friend Abby.  We are acquaintances - I see the Harrisons at birthday parties, etc.  Maddie (the mom) knows my story through Abby and I, of course, know hers.  But every time I read her blog, I feel so connected to all that she is saying.  She is literally fighting for her son's life.  A sweet, innocent little boy who has never gotten the chance to live like other kids his age.  I see his sweet face and think immediately of our own little boy... of Nash.  We found out about his heart condition too late.  But doctors have repeatedly told us that his only hope would have been a heart transplant.  To watch the Harrisons go down this road feels like looking into a mirror of what our lives may have been like.  It tears at me every time I read Maddie's blog.

I'm asking anyone who reads this to go to the Harrison's blog and read about this precious family.  Then, imagine Keegan's face as you send your prayers to God.  Please ask Him to be with the family on their trip out east.  Pray for answers.  Pray for committed and empathetic doctors who will fight to figure out what will help Keegan.  Pray for Audrey, who is barely one years old, and will be staying in Texas as the rest of her family is in Boston.  Pray for the strength of Maddie and Gray, as they continue to go to battle for their little boy.  Pray for moments of peace and joy through all of this.

I hope that me writing this without any type of permission on the Harrison's part is appropriate.  I just felt that I had to do something.  Please go check out their blog (address is above) and meet this incredible and faithful family.

Love to y'all,
Tracy
